ROBINSON CASTELLANOS SANCHEZ, HIS RETURN TO CLOSE-UP, SILVER FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION, SUCCESSFUL CASE OF MEDICINE AND APPLIED SCIENCE IN SPORT.

The support of medicine and sports sciences an athlete or sports team seems logical, obvious and elementary in an athletic planning regardless of the level of competition in question, unfortunately not, even in these times is not difficult to find gaps or loopholes in these mentioned aspects and I dare say that any colleague has had, or has, such obstacles on a daily basis. I speak particularly of Sports Medicine; remains a little known and recognized by the general public, the medical profession medical specialty and national sport; If I can appreciate and recognize the positive changes that have occurred in the last years, but I dare say it took several years in arrears with respect to countries that culturally have medicine rooted sport in their daily work, and I'm not talking about technology that work or knowledge by doctors but the place we occupy within the sports culture that we have not yet.

I can assure that all of us in Sports Medicine, we have success stories to tell, I will refer to the case of Robinson Castellanos Sánchez, mexican professional boxer.

The particular case of Robinson Castellanos I consider to success in Sports Medicine and physical therapy planning. With a career with over thirty figths and more than thirteen years Castellanos made radical changes to his last two bouts, bordered by recreational shame and fighting spirit, performed activities until that moment unknown for him and that focused on the prevention of injury and improves their physical performance. The absence of injury, its enviable physical form, his courage in the ring and a light breakfast in the morning prior to weighing, were some of the features that surprised all and sundry in combat that claimed last October versus Ronny Rios; for that suit the electronic counter "CompuBox" calculated an average of forty-six shots assault, twenty more above average for their division, with an ERA of fifty four percent, "Robin" was won by TKO in the fifth round.

The second bout a few weeks ago, yielded very similar characteristics in fitness and performance, with a much more experienced and traveling across the path of the twelve rounds rival, getting  a unanimous decision versus Rocky Juarez, which included four visits to the canvas, a fighter that was never knocked out, and that in his long and brilliant career had only three official knockdowns (source: Boxrec.com), at the end of this bout, the native of Texas announced his retirement after being dethroned by the championship Silver World Featherweight of the World Boxing Council.
Weigth in ceremony, Castellanos-Juárez.

For this fight figures CompuBox are more amenable to analysis and criticism, I will highlight two sections only: Castellanos averaged 17 of 50 power shots by assault (for your division the average is 13 to 35), four power punches above average per round, with all that that means; a total of 80 strokes per round on average, this shows resistance, although obviously low effectiveness; The second point to note is that in the first assault Robinson threw 45 power shots and made 13 (29% effective), and in the twelfth assault launched 57 and hit 23 (40% effective). These cold numbers reflect among other things, a great preparation, fitness and health excellence.

Well then ... What is the secret?, perhaps to surprise the reader the answer is that there is no secret. In recent months we have not used any magic technique unknown trick or technologies and resources that we have worked are employing any center of Medicine applied to Sport, the arrangement of the athlete, his clear and precise objectives, timing, processes and scheduled breaks coupled with preventive and curative interventions are what gave the result that so far we have seen.

The  how ?, the whens? and why? Me I reserve for my athlete, understanding that everything is in the same experience of professional practice and the dictates of world literature in terms of physical performance and their effects on the body.

On reflection I feel compelled to reveal the secret, which is none other than putting in any sport planning to Medicine and Applied Sport peer to peer in making decisions with the coach and athlete ... very easy?, if it is simple but believe it or not this is still not the case in Mexico.
Robinson Castellanos, Silver world champion, WBC featherweigth.

Finally, I want to reiterate my congratulations to Robin for his great achievement and thank you once again for the trust.
